Pillow talk

Even though we have had our bad nights, or series of bad nights (and I always seem to write about those!), for the most part, Cate is a great sleeper. Dr. Weissbluth would be so proud – this book is my sleep bible. I seriously read about six sleep books while pregnant, and this one is by far my favorite. 

I love how passionate and angry and self-righteous and slightly ridiculous parents can be about their approaches to sleep. It's so interesting. I swear, you bring up sleep theories in a room full of parents, and it can go from friendly to freezing in about two seconds. There's the baby-wisers and the co-sleepers and everything in between. There's the parents who have no schedule and then there's the parents that can't think beyond their schedule. You can probably guess where I fall on that last continuum, although I consciously try to be somewhat flexible…

Here's our theoretical schedule:

6:30-7:00 a.m. – wake up!
8:15-10:00 a.m. – morning nap
1:15-4:00 p.m. – afternoon nap
6:30 p.m. – bedtime
1:00-3:00 a.m. – wake up to eat

Any thoughts on all things sleep?

    I don’t have to even tell you where I fall on this issue because you know me ALL too well! πŸ™‚ STICK TO THE NAPPING SCHEDULE and NEVER go anywhere! Well, almost. πŸ™‚

    Sleep is good. I am also a huge fan of Dr. W. Though we didn’t read his book until Gabriel was 10 months old. After reading it I would go to baby yoga and tell all the crazy hippi moms to just kick that kid out of the bed (bring their husbands back in), let the kid cry just a little and please get some sleep. The only problem is G didn’t read the part about not getting up after 6am. He wakes at 5:45 every morning. No one is perfect.

    The schedule sounds wonderful but I just can’t close my baby in a room by herself and let her cry, it rips my heart out. I will do with less regular schedule and have a baby who knows her Mommy will come when she calls. However I am not also trying to work from home which makes having a schedule much more important. Right now I am so tired all the time I nap when Alyce does! I am 9 and 1/2 weeks though so the tired thing will be getting better!:)

    Angel – I think Gabriel was sending Cate little messages because guess what time she woke up this a.m.? Yeah, 5:45!
    Adrielle – i love you even if we have a slight difference of practice! I do hope the tiredness starts to get a little better…see you soon.

    Sleep aside, I think I find comfort in routine. Although I never have a routine unless one is imposed on me. Maybe you can give me a routine when you move to new york? Also, I would enjoy being fed and put to bed. But alternatively, you could decorate and order, arrange, catalog my life, etc., etc. and I would love it.
    (Re: sleep – I think I already mentioned the drink at Swing in Olympia called Mother’s Little Helper.)
